Le SINOMER® BMES (sulfure de bismercaptoéthyle) est un composé organique à l'odeur désagréable caractéristique. Il est fréquemment utilisé comme intermédiaire dans la synthèse d'autres composés organiques soufrés. Il est particulièrement adapté à la synthèse de thioéthers, de thioesters, de sulfoxydes et de sulfones, etc. Il constitue également la matière première de base pour la préparation de thiocarbamates. Le DMDS est aussi utilisé comme cosolvant pour divers colorants cationiques et colorants de cuve à base de phtalocyanine IF3G. Il peut également servir d'agent d'encollage, d'agent de nivellement et d'absorbant pour l'impression par encres de cuve. Un agent chauffant permet d'améliorer le rendement et la brillance des couleurs des supports imprimés et teints.
